WEEK EIGHT: Creative Personal Branding Strategies for Job Search

This blog post is WEEK EIGHT of the personal branding strategies series. This post assumes that you completed the previous week’s assignments.

If you haven’t completed it, click here to do it.

I will warn you in the beginning, some of the recommendations in the series take time, effort & sometimes money to do it.

You need to be comfortable to get in there, roll up your sleeves, and get your hands dirty.

I can assure you that it only takes the time you spend watching a single Netflix series.

So let’s start WEEK EIGHT tasks now

Week eight has no tasks to do. You’ve already done enough in the last seven weeks. You should have started seeing results in some way now.

This week is about the habits & the way of living.

Jim Rohn says stress is looking for an above-average job with above-average pay before becoming above average person.

Strive to become an above-average person.

An above-average person is intensely focused on improving himself.

  • He relentlessly focuses on self-improvement.
  • He practices mindfulness/meditation/physical exercise.
  • He is intensely grateful for every fiber of his being.
  • He is aware of what he is putting into his body.
  • He is mindful of his health.
  • He can perceive more than others.
  • He has a sound relationship with his family & friends.

If you always strive to become an above-average person, everything else you seek will naturally follow.

Meet Jim Rohn (1930 – 2009) in personal development.

Health & Wellness is the key

Pay attention to what you put inside your body & how your body react to it.

The human body has natural intelligence in itself.

If you feed it the right, it will flower.

In the place where I brought up in south India called Tamil Nadu, it’s in our 10,000-year-old literature called SIDDHA MEDICINE.

It’s based on the concept called

உணவே மருந்து
Everyday food is Medicine.

When you feed your body with the right food, there is no need for medicine (cure) in your life.

Physical Health

The human body is designed to move, to hunt for food. Now we turned it upside down.

Give your body the necessary physical activity every day.

Play audiobooks on your Alexa speaker, documentaries on your phone when you do your physical activity.

Audio books that you can start with

  • Start with why.
  • The Magic of thinking big.
  • Think & Grow Rich

Documentaries you can start with

Train your mind simultaneously when you do your running on your treadmill first thing in the morning.

[When the student is ready, the teacher will appear]

Become a grateful person.

Be intensely grateful for every fiber of your being.

Fill in your mind with positives you are already blessed with.

It's not happy people who are grateful, its grateful people who are happy

I’ve met jobless persons who are always stressed out. I will always have one piece of advice for them.

You have abundant time to use for your self-improvement. Use it on your health & wellness, practice something new & spend more time with family.

Eventually, every single one of them got the job but never again they got the time when they are jobless.

Increase your perception

Increasing perception is not something you would consciously do.

When you relentlessly focus on self-improvement, be intensely grateful, concentrate on health & be mindful of everything, you’ll naturally increase your perception

You’ll start to perceive more about yourself, your mind, your body & your environment.

When you start to perceive more, you live in the present.

You don’t dwell on the past when you are focused way too much on the present & you believe in a promising future as you are crafting it right now.

You’ll start to learn from everything you see.

[When you start paying attention, everything is your teacher]

The solutions to the problems you face come naturally to you (or) you’ll start noticing and act on it instantly.

You’ll KNOW what is good for you & you start doing it more.

Your body and mind start to work for you & you know you don’t need any chemicals to feel good.

You’ll find no need to change anyone & start to admire them the way they are.

You have no reason to hate anyone anymore.

The government, the boss, the climate, you constantly whine about for so long suddenly becomes insignificant minor obstacles compared to a life force within you that wants to accomplish something much more significant.

Getting up at 5 AM to do something significant is not going to feel like a sacrifice anymore. It just happens spontaneously.

Every day feels like a Christmas morning. Every day is bliss.

You will find your WHY, a meaning for your existence.

On that day, I would say, Welcome to planet earth

Congratulations, I know you got the job. But wait

I believe you cannot fail many interviews if you have this thought process. Eventually, in the next 30 – 60 days, you will get a job, if you haven’t got one already.

You won the battle.  Isn’t it? but it’s not enough.

The primary question to ask on your new job is not what you are getting. It’s what you are becoming.

If what you are becoming every day doesn’t align with your PURPOSE, you know you have to move on.

There is another battle, the next one and one more too.

Whatever you had done so far that got you into this job, you will do the same again.

But wait, this time (maybe some years later), you will already be established as a brand.

The Next job will come to find you.

You won the WAR. congratulations

If you think it’s enough to get by, It’s still not.

Now is the time abundance step in your life. You’ll have enough for you, your family & can spare some for others too.

But now, you have a responsibility. Start thinking about others who are less fortunate than you because YOU CAN.

This world compels you to buy stuff to be happy and fulfilled.

Remember

Every worm, every insect & every living creature on this planet (except humans) consumes ONLY what it needs from the earthSadhguru

So, Let’s practice minimalism and will leave enough for our kids.

Practice Minimalism.

You don’t need to accumulate THINGS to be happy.

You know you don’t have to satisfy your ego with stuff because there isn’t one within you.

Here is a good documentary to know how we are tricked.

Happiness is a state of being. It doesn’t come from acquiring things.

Happiness comes from a feeling that somebody’s life is profoundly touched because of my existence – Wayne Dyer in The SHIFT

Donate with your kindness/time/knowledge/experience.

All the things you already acquired that you have no use for can be donated to people with actual necessities.

Money is not the only thing that you can donate.

When you pay attention, you’ll SEE the struggling people around you in your family, friends, in your office.

Please think of all the people you go to… all of them are fighting an invisible battle.

You can offer to help them with whatever you have.

Step into someone’s life who is less fortunate than you and help them with your time/knowledge/experience to let them know they can do more than what they thought they are capable of doing.
They will carry your name for the rest of their livesSimon Sinek
